Weddings in Costa Rica?

When i was discussing this forum with a friend, she mentioned how she was considering marrying in Costa Rica. She wanted to go somewhere different and marry, instead of in her homeland. But I'm wondering if that's possible, doesn't that complicate the legality of the marriage? I have no idea. But anyway she wanted to ask which town would be most ideal for a wedding?

No complications at all if you follow their rules. The marriage certificate may not be in English so you might want a translation.

Not sure of the rules in Costa Rica.

In Colombia you need to get a special marriage visa (or visit the Island of San Andres where you only need your passport).

The United States accepts marriages in other countries that are under the laws of that country.

There are tons of Americans that get married in Costa Rica. The best thing to do would probably just do a search on the net for more information. Most people get married on the beach. And, if you think about it, that way you could have a few guests that you could pay for since most area hotels gave great rates or bungaloes with more rooms.

Okay, cool thanks for the information. I'll pass it all to her, and do some googling for websites to tell her to check out. She's not a very internet savvy type of person.

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
