Is wimax available in costa rica yet? What's the coverage area? What's the dataspeeds and cost?

Comment #1 Nancy Nelson from San Rafael de Heredia (Contact Member) -

YES - we have it and it is fantastic - fast, reliable and reasonably priced. You need to be in line-of-site with a WiMax radio transmitter.

Comment #2 Bill from Alajuela (Contact Member) -

What about specifics? Ping times to various sites in the USA? Upload and download speed tests... to USA sites?

Monthly price and quoted capacity... and does it different from the actual speed tests?

Comment #3 Nancy Nelson from San Rafael de Heredia (Contact Member) -

Just tried your Speed Test link. Recommended site was Valenica, somewhere in South America, about 650 miles away. Ping 221 ms, upload 0.2 Mb/s, download 0.43 Mb/s. We use the lowest level of service available and it suits our needs better than the local internet cafes. Part of our excitement is that this is the ONLY option available to us. Our neighborhood does not have cable or land telephone lines. Only downside is it looks like we have to pay 12 months/year, even when we do not live here. Cost : $35.95/mo unlimited service plus $6/mo router rental. We will buy our own in US so will eliminate the rental fee.

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
