Most places have a very high medical treatment cost, but Costa Rica is not one of those places. Plus they have a huge variety of pharmaceutical products. Many tourists that go to Costa Rica, visit for medical treatment.

Yes, you can get most medicine without a prescription and there is a doctor available in most Farmicia's to write a prescription if needed. You will pay much less than in the USA.

But how safe is it?
For example, i have heard about people choosing to get plastic surgery done at countries other than USA/Canada as it's cheaper and then come back with a botched plastic sugery results. Does that happen often in Costa Rica?

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
