What are the most popular sports found in Costa Rica? For some reason I keep imagining soccer. But i really have don't know.

Comment #1 Jules from the Great Wide World (Contact Member) -

There are many sports in Costa Rica, of course soccer/football being one of the largest. There is also sports like surfing. I would figure they play many of the same sports as Americans.

Comment #2 Roxy from Heaven (Contact Member) -

I saw another post that said that they play flag football in Costa Rica. I wonder if that means soccer, or if that is like American football?

Comment #3 sandy from baytown, tx (Contact Member) -

I just googled and it looks a lot like American football. Except that there are flags? Heh, i don't understand it so far but here's a link if you want to figure it out! :)

Hi Sandy

In regard to flag football. Its pretty much as regular football in concept . But did you notice the lack of protective gear on the players? Thats what the flags are for .....smile. You pull a persons flag out of their back pocket insted of doing a tackle(or knocking them to the ground)thus the ladies can play with the men with no fear.......

Get real you people! They play "futbol" which would translate to soccer for you whimps.

I think I've heard "futbol" in one of those costa rican series and they realy meant soccer not the american football.

yeah maurice, flag football is exactly what you described.

Guess who decided to drop by, it is the grumpy old man on the block... block head Chuck hahaha. Are you some sort of an expert to sports or in the English for you are calling those who doesn't know "futbol" as "soccer". Well, one thing is for sure that you are no English master, where the hell did that "futbol" came from, it should be spelled as "football" not with the "u" and "o" you big bumbling dope!

Dear Gregory, I believe the big bumbling dope is you. If you had one bit of common sense, you would realize that "futbol" is what the spanish speaking world calls soccer. At least try to study up when you attempt to call someone out.

Whether it is futbol or football, is there any big deal? You are all referring to the same game dudes.

It seems that flag football is quite a boring sport..how do you run around chasing flags on people's backs? It would not be safe for both sexes as someone previously suggested.

Soccer could be the popular game. Aren't there any other kinds of sports?

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
