I am also going to relocae to Costa Rica and this is what I have found out. All animals need to have a health certificate from your local veterinarian (within 2 weeks of travel). The certificate must state the animal is disease free---you must also have a rabies vaccination at least 30 days prior but not more than a year old. You also must get authorization from the Costa Rican Health Ministry-do this through the Costa Rican Embassy or consulate. Upon arrival, the customs officer will look over your pet and all documents, and if everything looks good, that's it. The consulate office in Miami: Consulate General 1101 Brickell Ave. Ste. 704-S Miami, Fl. 33131 Telephone (305)871-7487 or (305)871-7485 There are other consulates located around the US. I am also going to be speaking with a lady who has gone through this process and will try to get additional info from her. Will see her in a couple of weeks.

i just took all my dogs to the vet.they had to have all there shots and rabies also.blood taken for heart worms.checked for worms.the vet is going to do the all the paper work.for the rabies it`s 30 days for costa rico. and the health papers are20 days from when you start.so we will pick up the health papers in about 2 weeks.from the vet.we were lucky to have vet.who knows what to do.we have 3 dogs and it was 350.00 for all of them.dan

Want to take my cat to Costa Rica when I retire there in 2006. I know that I must have the cat properly vaccinated along with vet's statement that the cat doesn't have rabies or other contagious diseases. But, what I don't know is what do I need from a

Costa Rican Consulate in the U.S. Can all the paperwork be accomplished prior to flight time? Have heard that the vet's papers must be certified and authenticated within 10 days of issuance from the vet. True? Please, I need helpful input from those readers who know about this problem. Thanks, Lee

I have a wolf hybrid (13 years), a rottweiler (10 years), golden retriever, 3 cats and an African Grey Parrot.

My concern is the wolf hybrid, the rottweiler and the African Grey.

Will they allow me to bring these pets into the country? I plan on getting my citizenship under pensianado status and the animals would not be taken back out of the country.

Also, I know about the vet checks that need to be done within a short time before departure, but am still unsure what paperwork I need the vet to complete and where I can obtain all the necessary documentation. Is there a step by step guide available?

Any information would help. Desperate in New England.

I think you should call the immigration services in Costa Rica or even cotnact your homeland's immigration services. I am sure they would have some information about your animals and whether they would be safe in Costa Rica and let you know what sort of paperworks you need.

I have a pitbull. Do you think I would have a problem trying to bring him to Costa Rica with me? He is very well trained and has never bit anyone.

With the right vaccination papers you will have no problem.
