'What kind of vegetables and fruits grow in Costa Rica?' Recipes and Food

I was wondering what kind of vegetables and fruits grow in Costa Rica? I am an avocado fanatic, is there any in Costa Rica? Any information would be neat, thanks!

Some of the fruits they have are mangoes, papayas, pineapples, melons, and bananas. Maranan is a fruit off of the cashew tree that is famous to Costa Rica.

I don't really like vegetables too much, but Costa Rica has quite a few to choose from like cabbage and tomato. They also have an assortment of plantains. Really they have much better fruit than vegetables if you ask me. They have some really exotic sweet fruits like papaya, starkist, mangoes, and passion fruit. Yummy.

I just recently checked out the fruits pictures section on this forum! They look so yummy, also i think i spy an avocado!

Yes avocado are easy to find. Some of the fruits are seasonal. Fruits and veggies are usually very inexpensive. Especially oranges (they are often colored green, but very ripe and sweet), bananas, watermelon, mangos, etc. The imported fruits, apples, grapes are too expensive to think about buying.

But as I said before the fresh fruits and vegetables aren't often served in restaruants. The best place to get them is the farmers markets held in nearly every city.

Neat, i have never had a grene orange and didn't even know oranges were green in some countries until i noticed a question about that on this forum and did some searching for an answer. When i go, i'd rather buy at the markets anyways, more personal that way and better deals, instead of having them at resturants. I wasn't sure if Costa Rica grew avocados, but looks like it!

One of my favorite things to do while I was in Costa Rica was going to the open markets where all of the fruits and vegetables were. Being unfamiliar with all of the local staples, I had to ask a lot of questions.

All of the vendors were pleasant and helpful and many would offer you samples of their fruits or veggies if you were unfamiliar.

The variety was amazing and trying new things was great!
