I was looking at some lots on the web in Costa Rica and they are going for upwards of $300, 000 if you want ocean view. I didn't think it would be that high. I was very surprised. Do quite a few people retire in Costa Rica? Trackbacks

Prices are rising fast. Especially properties being marketed to Gringos. Here is how the price structure goes from highest to lowest 1) internet 2) english newspapers 3) regular newspapers 4) finding the property yourself For example, if you want to rent an apartment you need to walk around and when you see a for rent sign on something you like have a Costa Rican call the number for you. The price you get will be substantially different from what you see on the internet.

That is very valuable information if you are looking for a lot in Costa Rica. I never would have figured they would change the price according to where it is posted. It seems smart of the land owner to do that though, Americans don't know any better. Thanks for the heads up.

Everything has at least 3 prices. Regular price. Gringo price and stupid gringo price.Never make an inquiry yourself. Always have a trusted local do it for you. Even in stores you'll find that many don't tag items with prices. Not even radio shack.

Ha, i guess it makes sense. People need to profit, and if it's easy to take advantage then why not? I'm curious, why is it that visitors are called Gringos? Does that mean any visitors or only Americans?

I just hope I don't fall for any stupid gringo prices. As an American, I just wouldn't even know the difference. I suppose it is smartest to make friends with some locals before buying property so they can help you in the process.
