If you want to buy property and you are asking questions like that, just consider a 100% loss of your investment is the most likely outcome.

Costa Rica is a perfect place to retire or to invest your money in a property. I really find the place so beautiful and very exotic. I can guarantee you that the place is safe and son it will be one of the most beautiful places in the whole world. Purchasing a property in Costa Rica is so easy. I hope that you will soon be able to purchase a property in this heavenly place.

Costa Rica politics is not really difficult to figure out. As far as I am concerned Costa Rica is has strong constitutional system. The government is more particular with the social welfare that embodies Costa Rica culture. The economy is also working hard for producing good exports. It also promotes tourism in the country. You can check a lot of site about Costa Rica politics. You can Check this link.

Hello

Buying property in Costa Rica is a rather simple process. I have been an active real estate attorney in San Jose Costa Rica since 1999.

Please do your research before buying anything in Costa Rica.

I will more than glad to answer any questions that you might have.

Best Wishes

Rather than know about the government, political position and all those things...what I want to know about buying property in Costa Rica are some of these issues:

Can you expect some sort of reasonable attention by utility companies including internet? I require internet for my livelihood and can't afford to sit around twiddling my thumbs while they promise they will be there to install/fix the service.

What are the neighborhoods like around San Jose, maybe near Alajuela? Are the people friendly? Are they afraid someone is going to break into their property at any minute? Do you have to look at razor wire and barbed wire around every property? That surely doesn't instill much confidence if that is the case.

The day to day experiences are what I want to know about.

What do you mean by property? Raw land? A house? A condo? Beachfront?

It really helps to be much more specific as there will be great differences.

With respect to utilities... if you are buying a plot of land and there is no electrical service... good luck! Don't believe anyone's estimate of how long it will take to get or the cost. Same for phone service.

If you are buying a house and it has electric service, but no meter then it is probably a fairly rapid process to get electric service. If there is not a working phone line, you could plan on anywhere up to a year to get a line installed, one of the reasons cell phones are so popular.

Internet, you better check with specific providers before buying a property. There is always the risk that until you actually order it you will get mis-information and not actually be able to get the service.

Don't ask "do you have internet in Alajuela". Ask about the specific property.

For the security of property and razor wire... think about taking some personal responsibility and not simply being an addict of 911. Costa Rica does have 911, but I've had a response time of some 6+ hours. The absurd part was the officers said that if I saw the people doing it again to call them again so they could catch em in the act.

Remember, Costa Rica is NOT the USA and you need to integrate into how things are in Costa Rica and not view them from the US perspective.

Poor man's paradise

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose). Have you added a link to us from your website? (321550620):
