Marshal Deane (209.162.252.36) -

I live in Ontario Canada, and have long considerd moving to Costa Rica to start a new and exciting life for my familty. I am an Engineering Technologist C.E.T. with extensive experience in the water industry, and my wif's background is in purchasing. Is their many opportunities in Costa Rica for people like us.

Thanks

There are many opportunties in Costa Rica for those who make the opportunties. You need to be creative with the creation of your OWN BUSINESS.

For seeking a "regular" job you will find that there are almost no opportunities as 1) you will not easily get permission to "work", and 2) you will not find the wages suitable if you do.

I also have wanted to live in Costa Rica for a long time. I would really love to live in Montezuma, but would be willing to pretty much take anything on the pacific coast. I am a computer engineer with sales experience and entrepreneurial talents. Other areas I can work in are weight loss / physical training / social work / drug and alcohol counseling / and DJing. Do you see a great need for these types of skills?

Comment #3 Garrett Norman (207.69.137.140) -

I am interested in relocating to Costa Rica and becoming a citizen of your country. Iam looking for the requirements to do this. I would like information on doing this as a semi -retiree with the possibility of obtaining supplemenal income in your workforce. I have an extensive backround in metal fabrication and welding. I also have years of working in the golf course maintenance field. Your reply in this matter would be greatly appreciated Sincerely, Garrett Norman

Garrett, your fields of welding and golf course maintenance would probably be successful here. Get residency information from "ARCR" www.arcr.net Guanacaste is booming. Stand on a street corner; see what is not there, and do that.

I will be moving to Costa Rica and will be looking for some retired electrical engineers or computer science engineers who have experience in electrical design. I currently work for a service engineering and plan on working for them remotely in Costa Rica. I am also considering the possibility of setting up a design network if I can find the right people who want to work. If you know of anyone pass my email address to them.

I am planning to move to Costa Rica in Jan/Feb of 2006. I want to stay for about 5-6 months or however long it takes for me to become fluent in Spanish (I currentlt speak and understand on a basic level). I have a bachelors degree in Radio TV and Film, and have been working for Fox News television station in Austin, TX as an editor for the past year. I would like to get a job in costa rica while I live there, but I have no idea how to even start looking. Any ideas? Are there television jobs there? I would also be willing to work in a hotel, restaurant, beach resort, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Naomi

Hello,

My husband is a master cabinet maker. (custom cabinetry, fine furniture of every type, stairs, crown molding, casing, all joinery and installation,. He has run his own shop for 12 years.

In looking at real estate and photos of homes, I noticed that the kitchens do not usually match the architecture of the home, and that very few (also very very expensive)of the homes had beautiful kitchens.

I am wondering there would be a calling for a professional cabinet shop in Costa Rica.

Thank you

SW

Hi, I am interested in finding work in CR in the eco-tourism industry. I have been leading whale watches for 10 years in Maine, USA, have taught HS biology and env. ed.,am a licensed captain, an avid diver, and have built houses on and off for the past 20 years. I'm 18 years old, and about to take a gap year before attending college. I'm looking to improve my Spanish skills (learned for 6 years) and get some work experience. I don't have any experience as I've been attending boarding school for two years, but anyone who knows of a job in a resort or opportunity as such, please let me know. I'm very enthusiastic and cannot wait to start making my way! :)

Comment #22 Jacob Spetalieri (68.51.169.110) -

I'm a 28-year-old carpenter specializing in restoration and remodeling. I'm interested in employment in Costa Rica. I'm flexible and like to learn. I'm interested in learning about low environmental impact/off the grid housing. I can have my tools shipped. Please reply if you are a contractor, investor, or need property management.

So you think you can breeze into town and take down a $50,000 a year job just because you brought a few good skills with you?

Think again! You might be lucky to take home 50 cents an hour if you do back breaking work in the hot sun that doesn't take much skill at all.

Carpentry work is nice, but they tend to "frame" houses in cement... and don't except the huge cement truck to come barreling along to help out either. If you are lucky your cement mixer will have a engine running it. If you are even more lucky you won't be the one running the buckets of wet cement up to the work area with a block and tackle.. (but the guy making 10 cents an hour less than you will be).

I will be relocating by Christmas this year to Costa Rica. Any information will be helpful in the construction area. Have been in the field since 1979 and currently doing commercial and residential final make ready. Would enjoy to continue doing this in Costa Rica, however, would also fall into office management.

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
