Thank author of this post/commentSmall town on the beach. The beach is nice. Most of the restaurants in town have their menu's priced in Dollars.... and are much higher than what you find elsewhere in Costa Rica.

I wouldn't pay $100-$120 for a hotel room there... you are going to see the area not the hotel.

Thank author of this post/commentYeah i would probably only take a day trip to the beach and town to see what it is like. I would prefer to see everything and not spend too much time in one area. What's the best beach that Costa Rica has to offer anyway?

Thank author of this post/commentJaco Beach is nice. It is a tourist trap. But, it's a blast. The beaches are gorgeous and there are some nice hotels too. I don't know much about the restaurants. The people there were very friendly.

Thank author of this post/commentI personally would just book a hotel in Jaco if you are just staying a little while. Plus you will probably be traveling with others so you can split the cost. Jaco is one of the best areas to see in Costa Rica.

I lived there. It's full of thieves, crack heads and s. It's a blast to visit but living there?? Only if you are rich and get a nice, secure condo.

Look around in Manuel antonio or Ojochal.

I live up in the mountains near the lake. Tranquilo.....

Yhat isn't right to discouraged someone Doug Ward. It is full of thieves, and so? If you are careful and cautious then I think you will not have a problem. I have been traveling a lot and now am in a country "allegedly" infamous where tourists are getting kidnapped and held for ransom but this is not entirely true. The key here is to be careful and be cautious, as a tourist you are also responsible for your faith and actions. don't be influenced by travel bans or discouragement of individuals who doesn't know the real meaning of traveling.

personally I think jaco is a dump - Costa Rica is such a beautiful country and arriving there is such a disappoinment - much better places to visit.

Its extortionately expensive for this part of the world - probably as most businesses are owned by Americans, and although the ticos were cool, the other business owners were rude and acted superior.

go somewhere else - somewhere that actually feels like Costa Rica

So, the Jaco area is like "The Badlands" of Costa Rica. Well, maybe that is why it is so hot for business, tourists and especially scums of streets because it is where all cultures from other parts of the culture meet. A place where the usual Northern Americans aggressiveness and racist tendencies shows.

Jaco is very much a "surfers paradise" big waves and lots of nice looking young people. Beach is black sand.

please read my blog post on Jaco. Tells you a lot.

Sandy, I just bought a small condo in Jaco. as a surfer i find it to be a great town. It is a tourist town. I think you will find what ever you are looking for there. if your looking for trouble Im sure it can be found. And at the same time if your out for great sunsets, warm water and friendly people, that can be found as well. H.L.

Poor man's paradise

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose). Have you added a link to us from your website? (571217338):
