Hi
We are moving to San Jose in 2008 and would like to be in contact with expats living there. Is it safe for our families to walk around the shops in Escazu and are they safe in their homes.
We see so many comments offering completely different views it would be great to ba able to talk with someone who actually lives there.
We travel to San Jose in December for some property viewing.
Thanks for your help

You should find it generally safe. If someone can get in your house to rob it they probably will. That is why you see bars over all the windows.
One of the problems you have in Costa Rica is that you will probably stand out like a sore thumb... ie: regardless of your clothes it will be pretty clear you aren't from there.

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
