My partner and I are young, creative and skilled people whom would like to make a living creating and selling our clothing, textile and furnature products.

We also want to be fluent spanish speakers and would like to go to launguage school there as well.

I am inquiring about the fesibility of both getting a longer visa and how one goes about starting a small business and or if this is possible as americans.

"make a living"

Do you mean that phrase as "make a living like we were used to in the United States" or "make a living comparable to an average Tico"?

If the answer is the later, and you are happy figuring on living on a buck or so an hour the answer is probably yes. If you plan on bringing down 30k after expenses keep on dreaming!

Your best bet is just to visit Costa Rica and enjoy.

Yeah, I learned that in Costa Rica, to make a dollar an hour is average. As an American, with a trades business, you better just keep it in America because a good income in Costa Rica is just a few hundred dollars per month.

One option is always selling your items to people oversea while living in Costa Rica? That could help you bring in extra money other than what you are making off selling items to Costa Rican and visitors. Also one must remember, life is generally cheap [to us] in Costa Rica, so it makes sense why one would usually only make 1 buck a hour.

Keep this min mind... . Some people like to call Costa Rica various things like Puerto Rico or Costa Rico. Costa Rica translates to "Rich Coast"... check out Costa Rica. Costa Rica is also two words, not one, ie: Costarica or CostaRico. San Jose is the capitol city of Costa Rica. The San Jose International Aiport (SJO) is really located in Alajuela, Costa Rica (about 15 km from the Capital San Jose).
