I was wondering if there was a good time of the year to visit the volcano as far as seeing some action from it. Does it erupt occasionally or frequently?

When it's not raining.Define erupt. Are you talking about the massive displays you see in some spectactular photos? Or are you talking about lava rolling down the side?
The later is common during the day you would see smoke trails at night little red balls. The massive eruptions are few and far between.

Here is the link to the most active volcano on earth. If you want more info about the volcano, just look it up on the internet. Most of the shortlisted have continuous eruptions for the past 3500 year which is Mt. Etna Volcano located at Italy.

I am not sure why people interested in Arenal Volcano in COSTA RICA and in a forum about Costa Rica would give flying hoot about volcanos in Italy??!?!

Best month to actually see the crater of Arenal Volcano and the fire spewing out the top is March. Because it rains less then and there are less clouds surrounding the volcano. I lived in Costa Rica for 8 years and led tours to Arenal (from Atlanta Georgia. Always in March.please check out my blog on "Interesting topics of Costa Rica Travel" www.costaricalearn.com
Have a nice vacation in Costa Rica!
